'Bethlehem & Beyond' set for Dec. 6

A musical journey to "Bethlehem and Beyond" is in store for the area, thanks to the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ.

The West Monroe church will offer its annual Christmas concert at 5 p.m. Dec. 6, featuring two local a cappella groups – Piney Hills Harmony, a women's Sweet Adeline chorus headquartered in Ruston, and Note-orious, a men's barbershop chorus from Monroe. One highlight of the show will be the two choruses combining to sing "O Holy Night."

Rhapsody quartet, composed of Piney Hills Harmony members, will also perform as will several young people from the congregation:
- Payton Adkins, daughter of Ben and Melissa Adkins
- Addison Culp, daughter of Chad and Betsy Culp
- Max and Laela Dasher, son and daughter of Zach and Jil Dasher and
- Conner Saucer, son of Jason and Marci Saucer.

The audience will get into the spirit as well when they're invited to sing along on several Christmas carols. A Christmas cookie fellowship will follow the show.

Admission is free. The church is located at 3201 N. 7th St.

Chorus sponsoring Butterbraid fundraiser

We've having a Butter Braid frozen pastry dough fundraiser.  So simple and easy: Find what makes your mouth water the most; contact one of us; we deliver the frozen dough.  You then thaw it; let it rise; and bake.  Deeeelish!

Please let one of our chorus members know if you're interested in participating in this great way to support Piney Hills Harmony.  Our chorus members hail from all across North Louisiana - from Shreveport to the east of Monroe, down to Winnfield.  If you're within a short driving distance of this area, just let us know, and we'll get the bread to you.

Deadline for us to turn in the orders is Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Thanks for considering it!

Sweet Adelines Day proclaimed in Ruston; chorus to host Open House

This front-page story was published Sept. 20 in the Ruston Daily Leader.
Here's the text from the story so that you can read it more easily:

Women's a cappella harmony will resound in Ruston on Thursday, Sept. 24, which Mayor Ronny Walker has proclaimed Sweet Adelines International Day.

Piney Hills Harmony, the local Sweet Adelines chapter, joins more than 500 such choruses worldwide in celebrating Global Open House this month, and the international organization is observing its 70th anniversary this year.

As part of the festivities, Piney Hills Harmony will present a free public performance during a local Open House at 7 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, 212 N. Bonner.

"In light of these significant events, we appreciate the mayor's proclaiming September 24 as Sweet Adelines International Day in Ruston," said Piney Hills Harmony Director Sheila Nugent. "We enjoyed accepting the proclamation from him and, in turn, presenting him with a surprise serenade."

The proclamation notes that the international organization was established in 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and now has more than 23,000 members in 16 countries. Through education and performance, these women singers have stayed true to the group's original goals – entertaining and educating thousands of people each year.

In the proclamation, Walker encourages "every woman with a love of singing to seek opportunities with a Sweet Adelines International chorus such as the one that was chartered in Ruston in 1987 – Piney Hills Harmony."

Nugent also encourages women who love to sing to seek out out the chorus. "We want to help live out the motto of Sweet Adelines International right here in North Louisiana," she said. "We want to 'Harmonize the World.' Ladies, come help us do that in beautiful, four-part harmony. This Open House is a perfect time to check out our sound and also to meet us in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

"We invite all area residents – both men and women – to visit with us that night. Come take part in a global event that celebrates harmony. Isn't that a nice thought in today's world?"

More information about the chorus can be found on Facebook at Piney Hills Harmony Chorus / Sweet Adelines or the website

Alanna sung in as newest Piney Hills Harmony member, joins her mother and sister

We sang in our newest youngest member Thursday night, Alanna. She joins her sister, Keera, who is also in the chorus and until now held the Youngest Member title. What's more, their mom, Rebecca, is also in the chorus! So glad to have you now as one of our Singing Sisters, Alanna! You've grown up attending our rehearsals and sitting in a chair out front. Now you get to be on the risers - for real - with us! Hooray!  In the background, members Nadine and Mary Beth help sing her in.

First session of 'Hot Summer Harmony'

Our first night of "Hot Summer Harmony" is completed, and we had several guests ... and they're really good singers!  So we hope they'll come back next week ... and maybe even bring a friend.  If you're reading this and you missed our first night of summer fun, there's always next week ... and then the week after that ... and then "Hot Summer Harmony" is over ... but you're still always welcome to visit us Singing Sisters in Piney Hills Harmony!

Hot Summer Harmony is upon us!

Piney Hills Harmony is a fun and friendly group of women who enjoy singing a cappella, in the new barbershop style. Membership in our chorus is open to women of all ages, and right now is a great time to join.

We're recruiting and invite women who love fun and singing to come to our rehearsal July 30, Aug. 6 and/or Aug. 13 (all Thursdays) from 6-8 p.m. to check us out.  And if it's a match, we'd love for you to join us.  (Note:  You don't need to read music to join and be an integral part of this group.)

We meet at Presbyterian Church of Ruston (212 N. Bonner St., Ruston) in the Fellowship Hall. Come find out how you can become a part of something extraordinary!

Plus, we are exceptionally proud of our quartet, Rhapsody, who competed for the first time this year and came in sixth out of 16 competitors. Thanks to all for their well wishes!

Friends & Family Night 2015 announced

Piney Hills Harmony will host its annual Friends and Family Night at 7 p.m. Monday, March 23.  The event is held each year prior to the chorus' competing in regional competition.

This year's contest will be held March 26-29 in Houston.  Piney Hills Harmony joined Sweet Adelines International's Region 10 last year and came home with second-place small-chorus medals.  Several of the chorus members are shown above with multiple medals and ribbons at last year's post-contest party.

Rhapsody! quartet, made up of Piney Hills Harmony members, is also competing this year and will  perform at Friends and Family as well.

Hope to see friends and family that night to send us off in fine fashion.
