A 6th-place ranking and now a little rest ....

Piney Hills Harmony ranked 6th out of 14 small choruses who sang in the Region 25 annual competition last weekend.

Here's a shot of us at Friends and Family Night in our final pose, a few days before we left for Dallas. F&FN was the first time we wore our sparkly new costumes!

Tonight (Thursday, March 31) we're taking the night off. As Sheila, our director, said in her Facebook post: "No rehearsal tonight. We ladies are taking a much needed break!!! But PHHC will be back in action next Thursday, 6 PM!!! Come sing with us!!! We'll be getting started on new music for our fall show!! PHHC RAWKS!!!!"

2011 Friends & Family Night set for Monday, March 21

Our annual Friends and Family Night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at our regular rehearsal venue - the fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, 212 N. Bonner. We'd love to see you there!

The event is a dress rehearsal and preview for the chorus's upcoming performance at Sweet Adelines International's Region 25 competition in Richardson, Texas, where choruses and quartets from five states will participate.

"We've been working very hard for the past few months to get ready for our yearly regional competition," Interim Director Sheila Stepp Nugent said. "We look forward to this special night so we can show all of our loved ones what we've been working on for so long. It's also a wonderful opportunity to fine-tune our performance package so that we're prepared for the stage experience."

In addition to presenting the competition set – "Sweet Adeline" and "How Many Hearts Have You Broken?" -- chorus members will sing several songs from their repertoire. Two quartets from within the chorus will also perform during Friends and Family Night:
* Sweet Harmony – Lea Rutherford, of West Monroe; and Donna Fike, Carol Ogle and Judy Sisson, all of Monroe.
* Take Four – Lisa Holmes, of Sharon; Teresa Howard, of Monroe; and Jean Dunham and Ginger Hicks, of West Monroe.

Piney Hills Harmony includes members from Caddo, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Union and Winn parishes. Admission to the Ruston performance is free. Refreshments will be served.

The photo above was taken during our recent coaching session with Kelly Causey, co-director of Top of the Rock Chorus in Little Rock, and Jeff Veteto, director of Ozark Showcase in Springfield, Mo.
